6 March, 2024
All aboard!
Rock legends Sammy Hagar and his band The Circle, composed of Michael Anthony, Jason Bonham and Vic Johnson, and Rick Springfield, along with Bret Michaels, ZZ Tops’ Billy Gibbons, Collective Soul, Jefferson Starship and more, joined thousands of screaming fans on the Rock Legends Cruise XI. The cruise, which departed from Miami to the Dominican Republic was an epic five-day journey jam-packed with non-stop music performances, poolside fun in the sun and free-flowing cocktails featuring Hagar’s award-winning Sammy’s Beach Bar Rum, Santo Spirits and buckets of Sammy’s Beach Bar Cocktails.
If you really want to know more about the Rock Legends Cruise:
Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale,
a tale of a rock star cruise.
That started from Miami port,
with bars all stocked with booze.
Sammy was a mighty singing star,
Springfield made the girls all swoon.
The passengers they drank all day,
from drinks of Beach Bar Rum, from drinks of Beach Bar Rum.
The bands all started getting loud,
some fans played air guitar.
If not margaritas of Santo they’d drink,
canned cocktails from Beach Bar, canned cocktails from Beach Bar.
The music played both night and day,
fan squeals from “Jessie’s Girl.”
Springfield on stage…Bret Michaels too,
the Red Rocker…and his band
Collective Soul,
the Starship…and other bands,
here on Rock Legends Cruise!
Departing at 5 p.m. on Friday Feb. 22, things got underway quickly on Friday, with Rick’s 7 p.m. show at The Royal Theater, where exclusive Sammy’s Beach Bar rum cocktails and shots kept the crowds in good spirits as they sang along to classics like “Jessie’s Girl” and new favorites from his latest project, “Revolver.” Later on the same stage at 10:30, Sammy & The Circle took to the stage to deliver the type of classic performance now synonymous with the legendary collective of musicians, even joined on stage by Rick and longtime friend Bret Michaels, who both provided backup vocals while delivering pours of of Sammy’s Beach Bar Rum to the front-rows.
By the start of day two, the cabin doors resembled a row of 1980’s highschool lockers, all adorned with rock and roll iconography and stickers. Around 6:30 p.m., fans lined up for a meet and greet with Sammy, Rick and the members of The Circle, the stars posing for photos, signing merchandise and even participating in a high-energy interview. At 8:30 p.m. Rick once again took to the stage, this time at Studio B. Clearly delivering another electrifying show wasn’t enough for Rick, as later that night during an open mic Rick took to the stage yet again, singing his way into the wee hours as the boat approached Puerto Plata.
After disembarking for a day of fun in the sun, voyagers returned just in time for Sammy & The Circle’s 5:00 p.m. poolside show, kicking off another epic night of shows and cruise shenanigans. Rick, ever the crowd pleaser, partook in another meet and greet session at 7 p.m. before joining the masses for another late night of oceanic rowdiness.
The final day of the cruise brought with it final performances from both Sammy and Rick. About halfway through Rick’s pool deck show at 2:30 p.m, Sammy crashed the party for a duet of, “I’ve Done Everything for You,” the song that kicked off the duo's friendship when Hagar penned it for Springfield back in 1981. Sammy would take to the pool stage again at 7:30 p.m., the sun setting on Rock Legends Cruise XI as Sammy’s Beach Bar Rum banners casted shadows on the adoring crowd.
