Rick Springfield Rocks Texas
28 August, 2023
Rick Springfield, who skyrocketed to rock stardom and heartthrob status more than 40 years ago, proved to The Lone Star State that he hasn’t lost the power to rock an arena and set many hearts aflutter.
Rick’s Fort Worth concert at Dickies Arena on Sunday, Aug. 20 had Texas fans rocking to his popular hits “I’ve Done Everything for You,”, “Affair of the Heart,” and “Don’t Talk To Strangers.” Each song was accompanied by a screaming soundtrack of long-dormant teen crushes being rekindled for the night. The decibel level reached new heights, however, when the rocker sang his #1 smash, “Jessie’s Girl,” which had the entire arena singing along to every word.
Rick, who is partnered with fellow rocker, Sammy Hagar, in the Puerto Rican made top-shelf rum, Sammy’s Beach Bar Rum, also treated concert-goers to an exclusive “Jessie’s Girl” cocktail featuring the premium rum. True fans might recognize that this isn’t the first collaboration between the two rockstars. They first teamed up in 1981 when the Sammy penned song, “I’ve Done Everything for You,” became a Top 10 hit for Rick and was included on his breakthrough “Working Class Dog” album.
Not afraid of talking to strangers, the ever youthful rocker got up close and personal with fans during an in-store appearance where he gave away samples and signed bottles of Sammy’s Beach Bar Rum at Spec’s Fine Wines and Liquors in Fort Worth on Monday, Aug. 21. Hundreds of (mostly female) fans, several wearing “Jessie’s Girl” t-shirts, waited in line for an opportunity to take photos, reminisce and confess their decades old teenage crushes to the humble heartthrob.
Rick’s Texas takeover continued on Tuesday, Aug. 22 with a show at Cook’s Garage in Lubbock, TX. The “I Want My 80’s” tour, which also features a slew of 80’s legends including Tommy Tutone (“8675-309/Jenny”), Paul Young (“Everytime You Go Away”) and The Hooters (“All You Zombies”), continues its way around the country with upcoming stops in Kentucky, Michigan and Illinois.
